AFFCAD Education Program
We believe education is more than a human right—it breaks the cycle of poverty and protects children from abuse.
Education is the bedrock of social and economic development. It’s pivotal to increasing employment and income opportunities that alleviate poverty, and to protecting children from violence, abuse and exploitation. The nation of Uganda cannot undergo meaningful or lasting change without it.
Our Goal
The AFFCAD Education Program aims to provide the children of Kampala’s low-income communities with access to high-quality formal education opportunities, as well as sponsorship and protection.
We strive to ensure children’s enrolment and completion of early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary education. This will allow them to support themselves out of poverty as they grow up.
AFFCAD School
In 2011, in the heart of Bwaise, AFFCAD established a local nursery and primary school called Excel Education Centre. It has since evolved into AFFCAD School and provided literacy and education to over 780 impoverished children.
Of these, many are orphans, disabled, or suffering with HIV. The school has allowed them to gain an education without the damaging effects of stigma.
AFFCAD School delivers a holistic and experience-based curriculum for children to comprehensively learn and develop into well-rounded individuals. Its wide range of curricular activities includes sport, music, dance and drama, as well as ICT to enhance their digital knowledge and skills.
The children are given time to relax through play, and nutritious meals in the morning and afternoon.
Combating Barriers To Education
To improve access to education, we must find ways to overcome barriers like child labour, early marriages and teenage pregnancies. We work especially hard to ensure more vulnerable young girls get all the learning opportunities they deserve.
Engaging in discussions with stakeholders allows us to develop strategies and put actionable interventions in place.
