Supporting Adolescent Girls to Lead

AFFCAD, together with Serving Lives Under Marginalization (SLUM) and Girl Power Alliance (GPA), launched community entry activities for the new phase of the Adolescent Girls Power Program (AGPP), a programme focused on equipping adolescent girls with the skills, knowledge, and support needed to make informed choices and pursue their aspirations.

The community engagement activities were conducted in Kilokole Zone, Kazo Angola, and St. Francis Bwaise, bringing together 60 stakeholders, including 40 females and 20 males. Participants included local leaders, community members, and project partners who came together to learn about the programme and discuss ways to support its successful implementation.

During the engagements, the project team shared the programme’s key areas of focus, including establishing safe spaces for adolescent girls, strengthening leadership and mentorship opportunities, promoting creative expression, and increasing access to sexual and reproductive health information and services.

Local leaders expressed their support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of providing adolescent girls with the confidence, life skills, and opportunities needed to overcome challenges and actively participate in shaping their dreams.

The community entry activities provided a strong foundation for collaboration and ownership, paving the way for the AGPP to work alongside communities in empowering adolescent girls and creating a community where they can grow, learn, and succeed.
